How to download Instagram stories on Android

Updated · 4 min read · By the InstaAnonViewer team

Download an available public story in your browser, then open it from Chrome’s Downloads list or your phone’s file manager. A file can be saved successfully before your gallery app shows it.

1. Open the story list in Chrome

Go to the Instagram Story Downloader. Enter a public username, profile link or Instagram story link, then tap Find stories. The result lists the account’s currently available stories so you can choose the item to save.

If another app opened the page inside its own browser and saving is unclear, open the tool in Chrome. You do not need an Instagram password or an additional downloader app to use the website.

2. Choose Download photo or Download video

Tap the labeled button under the story thumbnail. To check a story first, tap its thumbnail, preview the content and use the download button inside the preview. Save each story separately if you want several files.

Respond to Chrome’s download prompt if it appears and allow the transfer to finish. Your browser and phone settings determine the destination. The site starts a download request; it does not control the gallery or confirm that Android has finished writing the file.

3. Find the saved file

In Chrome, open the menu and choose Downloads. Depending on the location of your address bar, the Downloads control may appear in a different place. You can also open your phone’s Files app and look for downloaded files. See Google’s Chrome download instructions.

On phones with a different file manager, such as My Files, look for Downloads or recent files. Story filenames from this tool start with api-. Open the file to check that the photo or video is complete before sharing it.

Why is the story missing from my gallery?

A gallery app and a file manager can show different collections. Check the actual downloaded file first. A gallery may need time to discover a new image or video, may exclude a folder, or may not support the file format.

If your file manager offers a move or copy action, you can choose a media folder that your gallery displays. Folder names and available actions differ by phone; do not delete the original until you have checked the copy.

Fix an interrupted or unavailable download

  • Nothing is listed: check the public username and whether a current story is available. Private and Close Friends stories cannot be loaded.
  • A transfer is paused: inspect Chrome’s Downloads list and your connection. Check available phone storage before requesting the file again.
  • The media link no longer works: return to the account’s story list once. Expired or deleted media cannot be recovered by this tool.
  • Playback or audio differs: the downloaded file contains the media Instagram supplies. App-only effects, music or interactive elements may be absent.

For a story the owner kept publicly as a highlight, use the Highlights viewer. Save and reuse only content you own or have permission to use.
